Wondering what your dog might learn in basic obedience? There are lots of things that your dog will learn, including how to be a well behaved and well adjusted dog. Still not sure what your dog might learn? Keep in mind, if you have any other specific goals that you would like to achieve during basic obedience, feel free to discuss them with your trainer. Remember, this is your dog and we want him to do the things that are important to you. We have a general list of commands that your dog should know by the end of a basic obedience course. Depending on your dog’s previous training experience, he may know a few of these already.
The standard basic commands are:
Sit
Down
Stay - this command means that he holds a sit or down until you release him
Come- this command is very important and if practiced, will come in handy often
Heel- keeps your dog from dragging you down the street or pulling on the leash in any way
Leave it- tells your dog to take his mind (or mouth) off of what ever he is currently focused on.
Stand - on all fours
Speak - typically a bark, but some dogs will also howl
Under arrest- very cute at parties! Dog puts his paws on the wall and you frisk him.
Roll over
Wave- Nice alternative to shake. This way he is still cute, but doesn’t put his paw on people.
Along with some other tricks to keep his mind busy.
