Program Options Board and Trains vary in duration depending on the outcome goals. Setting up a consultation with one of our skilled dog trainers is the first step in determining the right program for your dog. We have included some basic information regarding the program options that you might be offered at your consultation. 10 day crate train and basic foundation obedience board and train Must be 16 weeks or younger. Requires a crate of the appropriate size for your pet. This unique program involves 10 days of routine crate training with timed trips out the bathroom and lots of positive reinforcement. The Pet Athletic Club Trainers have crate trained 1000’s of dogs. We have worked through the set backs and understand the core reasons that puppies fail. Using strictly positive reinforcement methods with your puppy and structured daily routine, we condition him to understand that the crate is a safe, relaxing place to be. Proper crate training is crucial to a puppy’s development and will lay the foundation for a well behaved and balanced dog. Your puppy will also receive four 15 minute obedience training sessions daily. Commands include sit, down, stand, leave it, come, name recognition, the fundamental understanding of stay (duration varies based on size and age of puppy), walking on a loose leash, settle, and wait. Daily handling of your pup gets him used to things such as physical exams at the vet, nail trims, ear cleanings, etc. This is very important as he grows. We see dogs who are 50+ pounds who will not let humans handle their feet and must be anesthetized for nail trims, dogs who have to be muzzled when taken to the vet, and dogs who have chronic ear infections but won’t let their owners touch their ears. All of these problems can be avoided if the foundations are taken care of during the windows of socialization and desensitization while a puppy. Obedience Board and Train's There are 2 options when it comes to an obedience based board and trains: The first option for obedience based board and train is the 15 day basic obedience package which covers all basic obedience commands including sit, down, stay, come, heel, leave it, go to place, wait, stand, speak, under arrest, roll over, wave, and some other tricks to keep his mind busy. These commands are all done on leash so when you get him back, he is extremely well behaved and obedient ON LEASH.
By end of the basic obedience program, your dog will be fully trained on leash and will be the confident obedient dog you’ve always wanted. When the training is complete, we will set an appointment time for you to pick up your dog. We spend a 1-2 hour session with you to first introduce you to your dog’s new training. We then have you back for another 1-2 hour session after you have had a chance to get home and practice with your dog. The second session is to help you troubleshoot any communication issues or resolve any difficulties that you may be having in the upkeep of the training. If you are interested in off leash obedience we strongly encourage you to consider the 25 day program explained below. The second option for an obedience based board and train is a 25 day, advanced obedience board and train. The benefit of program is, when your dog has completed this course, he is completely off leash obedience trained. The phases are similar through day 15 of the basic obedience program including the learning phase being positive reinforcement, the proofing phases with training collars, and the introductions of distractions. The difference is the last 10-15 days, your dog is trained on an electronic collar (ecollar). This is a device that uses static correction to let your dog know when has done something incorrectly. The biggest benefits of ecollar training are first, the ecollars are completely customizable to your dog. When first invented in 1970’s, there was only 1 level of correction and that level was very severe. E-collars today, have ranges from ½ to 100 (depending on the brand) . This allows the ability to set it at level that is comfortable for your dog and still get the results that you desire. After determining your dogs working level, we will train him on the collar. This allows us to train your dog off leash within the range of the collar (most collars have a 1-2 mile range). The ecollar gives your dog an immense amount of freedom and he will no longer need a leash. The 2nd benefit to an ecollar is whoever holds remote, holds power to control the dog. One of the more difficult aspects of board and train is translating the training from the trainer to owner. Ecollar corrections are consistent from trainer to owner and therefore allow for an easy transition for your dog from our facility to your home. We will spend several hours with you at pick up to review the commands and corrections with a basic lesson in ecollar use. We will follow up with 3 further sessions to ensure that you understand your dogs training and are able to upkeep the training at home. We will continue to coach you through the use of the collar during these follow up sessions. In-home follow up is an option (and included) if needed. Commands include sit, down, stay, come, heel, leave it, go to place, wait, stand, speak, under arrest, roll over, wave and a few other tricks. By day 15, your dog will be competent in all of these commands while on leash. You can expect that she will do each of these commands the first time every time. By day 25, your dog will be competent in all of these commands while off-leash. Duration varies based on severity of separation anxiety (typical duration 14-28 days) Customized program to develop confidence, leadership reinforcement, cage desensitization, and pack status reinforcement. Separation anxiety is your dog’s inability to cope with your absence or separation from his owner. The level of separation anxiety a dog exhibits varies widely, however typical symptoms include excessive salivation, pacing, excessive grooming, digging, scratching at the door, chewing through walls or door frames, vocalization, self mutilation, and attempts to escape cage, room, or home. Duration varies based on severity of aggression and type of aggression (typical duration 21-45 days) Customized program to develop confidence, leadership reinforcement, desensitization to trigger stimulus. Dog will be off-leash obedience trained at end of the aggression rehabilitation training. Other packages are available ie. Personal Protection, Behavior Modification, Property Protection, etc. If you have a need that is not listed above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
